10 DAYS TO GO UNTIL THE T293 2024 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ARTEMIS, ATHENS
This excellent level of entries once again underlines the excellent health of the Techno class, following on from the magnificent World Championships held earlier in the summer on Lake Balaton in Hungary.
Greece is an attractive destination which should serve up some excellent weather conditions for the riders, most of whom have already switched to "autumn mode" with much less clement temperatures!
As always, the host country has the biggest number of entrants (88 in this case). Clubs all over the country have answered the call to this European Championships, back in Greece after an absence of 6 years. Greek riders have been regulars on the podiums for a few years now and they will start as hot favourites for their home Euro Championships.
Three other national teams are coming to the Euros each with over 20 riders: Hungary, riding the wave of enthusiasm after the World Championships, neighboring Turkey, and Great Britain, plus a sizeable Italian team numbering more than 60 riders! And there is a very even spread of entries coming from eastern European countries (Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and the Czech Republic), all still very active and bringing a dozen or more riders each. Belgium, France, and Singapore are all getting slightly smaller contingents, but could nonetheless make their presence felt in the top 10.
As regards age demographics, the U15 fleet is the biggest with 88 riders, with the U17s just behind (81) despite strong competition from foil boarding. And in the U13s, more good progress with over 60 competing in Athens. A great result! Only Techno Plus has decreased slightly compared to the 2023 Euros in Torbole. There was a bigger Techno Plus fleet in Balaton this summer, and they will certainly be back in force for the 2025 season.
As usual there will be a presentation of all the teams, and the first date for your diaries is the 26th October, for the traditional opening ceremony that will signal the start of this final major international event of the 2024 season.
